The 10
Commandments of Responsible Horse Ownership
By
Department of
Agriculture and Rural Affairs Australia.
1.Feed the horse to
keep it in good body condition and include plenty of roughage in the form
of pasture or hay in its diet.

2. Supply clean,
cool water at all times.
3.
Provide shelter from sun, wind and rain.

4. Provide the
horse with regular exercise, particularly where it cannot move freely
around a paddock.

5. Keep paddocks
clear of items that may injure a horse, such as rubbish or poisonous
plants.
6. Keep fences in
good order to prevent horse injury or escape.
7. Allow the horse
regular contact with people and other horses.
8. Desex stallions
or colts not used for breeding. Geildings make better and more
controllable companions.
9. Protect the
horse's health, particularly: vaccinations, regular worm control, regular
teeth and hoof care.
10. Check the horse
daily and contact a veterinarian promptly when the horse is injured or
sick.
You should not own a horse
if you do not practise the 10 Commandments.
You should only keep a
horse if you have the time and money to care for it properly.
Before purchasing a horse,
an informed family decision should be made regarding the ability of the
family to provide the animal with the necessary care in the future.

Dear Tat and Team,
I met you briefly at the last Equitana in Melbourne (no, I
think it was the one before - where does the time go!) I participated in
Endurance Riding until the end of 2004, and now just potter around with my
horses. Over the past few years, I have been building up my Barefoot
Trimming knowledge and practice. Andrew Bowe and I did a presentation at
Hidden Valley for the Victoria Arabian Jockey Club, with much interest
shown. Anyway, the purpose of this communication was to encourage you in
your endeavors towards promoting the horsey lifestyle.
I live in Lancefield, and unfortunately cannot get enough
signal from Channel 31 in Melbourne, or UHF from anywhere it seems! Not
being terribly impressed by television generally, I'm not planning to
spend several hundreds of dollars to get pay TV either! Nor do I have a
video or DVD player. I spend much of my time listening to the wireless! My
only concession to 'modern communications' is an ADSL Internet connection,
so I look forward to seeing your TV programmes packaged in video files,
downloadable from your website. I'm having a couple of car-free days, so
shortly I'll saddle up and ride into town for lunch and to pick up some
vittles for dinner tonight.
Best Regards, Luke, Lancefield, Vic.
Dear Luke,
Thanks for
your encouraging email. We have some interesting and possibly
controversial segments coming on in Series 3 with Andrew Bowe. We
have decided we are going to feature a fair amount of Horse Hoof stuff
especially barefoot. It may ruffle some feathers out there but we do
believe in it and our horses are living proof. We are going to cover
all aspects of going barefoot including the importance of transition time.
So hopefully the viewers get a good understanding on the horses hoof.
We even filmed a segment at a racecourse recently with a barefoot race
horse.
We will be
returning on cable Aurora in June 2006 but I will make sure to give Andrew
copies on DVD for you. We are working franticly to get the episodes on the
website with a high downloadable quality. Hopefully it won't be to
long. Once again thanks for your email and keep up the good work.
Horses & their owners need all the help they can get in regards to hoofs..
Kind Regards
TAT

Hi Team,
Firstly, thank you for
Horserush...My husband who has not a horsey bone in his body and forbids
horse talk in the house, watches too.
Could you please let me know
cost etc with a link to our website. We have a motel offering
accommodation for horses, dogs and their drivers halfway between Sydney
and Brisbane, 1km off the Pacific Highway.
Thank you for your time and
look forward to your reply
Dear Jenny,
Its good to hear that your
husband watches the show. Your email made us laugh. It means
we are doing our jobs when non horsey people watch. We are happy
to put a link up for you in our link to us page. This is free.
All we ask for is a reverse link.
Kind Regards
Tat.

Hi Tat,
I just
wanted to thank you for an absolutely brilliant TV show. Mum and I sit
down every Monday night at 7.30 to watch and we LOVE every episode. It's
awesome to see an Australian show that is entirely devoted to horses. You
guys do a great job and I have to say that I think Carlos is amazing! I
heard about him through the NoBit bridles people and got a lovely email
from Carlos about bringing on my youngster. It's been a great help, as has
your TV show. I've learned so much.
Please say
a special hello to Goldie from me - What a stunning horse who looks like
alot of fun to own!
Thanks again
for your great TV show - I look forward to the 2006 season!
Love,
Allie (NSW)
PS:
Attached is a picture of my old horse Milly, who died in February this
year - she was hit by lightning. The second picture is of Milly's
daughter, Molly, who I've had since April. She's five years old and has
just begun under saddle.

Allie & Molly

Allie & Milly
Hi Allie,
Thanks for
you comments on the show. Goldie is great and is enjoying some time
off filming at the moment. She recently got bindies (the brown round
ones) stuck on her snout for being a piggy and had us wondering why her
nose looked like it had warts or chicken pox. Joe worked it
out and then with the help of our vet got them all off. She's always
doing something to keep us on our toes. She's fine now but the vet
did have a laugh at her expense.
Its a shame
about Milly but at least you have her daughter now. 2006 will
feature some great segments so keep watching.
Take Care TAT

is excellent!
I am interested in purchasing the following DVD's, as
advertised on your website.

Please let me know availability and cost, plus postage
Marie
Dear Marie,
I'm glad
you enjoyed the DVD. Andrew Bowe DVD is available at the moment
and we are awaiting more Horse Rush Series 1 stock along with Series 2
that will be available soon. We will have a large range of DVD's
available on our website in the near future including, The Classical
Dressage Position by Leslie O'Neal Olsen USA silver medalist, which
should be available next month. I will have someone contact you
about the DVDs.
Thanks for
the feedback.
Tatiana.

Hi there,
First of all I am enjoying your show immensely, love
your stories, only complaint that it isn't long enough, its so good I
watch the repeats the next morning.
I am the NSW Vice President for the New
Forest Ponies Owners and Breeders Promotional group and we would love to
have a segment on our ponies. Is this possible sometime in the future?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Janine M
Dear Janine,
We are glad you are enjoying
the show Janine. I will have a Horse Rush producer contact you in
the New Year as we are having a well earned break until January
2006.
Joe
Thank you so much for the DVD on Trailer Loading. I received it
yesterday and have watched it 4 times already. I will watch it again
in the morning to make sure I know what I am doing, and then Mum and
I are going to the paddock to work with Smokey for a few of hours. I
hope this works. I have Pony Club on Sunday but Mum thinks that I
will probably still have to ride him there this time, but hopefully
not the next time.
We were going through your website and saw that you are having an
expo at West Rock Farm. Where is that? We would really like to come
if its not too far away from Melton.
Thanks again. I will let you know how we are going with Smokey.
Hi Brittany,
I'm glad the DVD helped you. That was
the first training video Horse Rush ever made. Carlos is a
good trainer and I still watch it myself. West Rock Farm is in
Carlsruhe VIC off the Calder FWY past Mt Macedon, we had an expo
there last year. When they have horse stuff on I will let you
know. You should come and check out Equitana this year
as they have a great line up. Do drop in and let me know how
Smokey is going.
Take care Tat.

Hi, I just caught your show for the first
time tonight on Aurora. I just found it by accident as I was channel
surfing !!
It was fantastic to see an Aussie horse show
on TV.
I'm a Parelli student and I've just been in
the USA at the 2005 Savvy Conference (which is the big annual event for
Pat and Linda Parelli at their ranch in Pagosa.
I'd love to see some Parelli stuff on your
show, especially since some of the highest ranked Parelli instructors
around the world are in fact Australians. Mel Flemming is living back
in Tamworth now and was Linda Parelli's right hand in developing the
concepts of Riding with Fluidity. If you're not familiar with the
concept, you really should explore it.
Anyway, thanks again and here's hoping we
can get some PNH stuff aired (who knows what I may have missed already
though)
Dear
Jasmin,
If
you want Parelli segments we will film Parelli segments. We had a
great interview with Pat on the show last year. I will be posting
the old footage on the website soon. We have been very busy
preparing the Series and traveling overseas to get good stories. I
will let our Producers know and we will follow your lead. Thanks for
the input. We really want to know what everyone out there wants to
see on the show.

Hi. Just saw the first episode of Horse
Rush on Foxtel. I didn't even know you guys existed!!
We run a horse rescue and welfare
organization called Brumby Adoption Association.
We originally set ourselves up as a
charity only a few years ago after some friends and I had been rescuing
horses and finally got together and took on a mob of WALER brumbies from
Newhaven Station N.T. These horses are the direct descendants of the
160,000 sent off to fight for Australia throughout the war and never
allowed to return home .
As we are on the Central Coast of NSW
this was a huge task and after 2 years we have finally trained
and re-homed most of them.
We have now taken on a number of
Standardbreds, since the Trotting Association in Townsville QLD has
recently closed.
We are always taking on new horses and do
not discriminate on age , breed or gender. We only recently lost our old
boy who was 38!!
We are always looking for caring homes
and re-home on a free lease arrangement so the horses can not be sold or
dogged.
We would be happy to talk with you
further about what we do and if you know of anyone looking for horses
let them know we are about.
We have a web site at
brumby-adoption.org.
Keep up the great work as we always
believe that education is the key to good horse ownership!!!!
Best wishes and if we can help you in any
way please let us know.
Brumby Adoption Association Inc
We
would love to help you Kattrina. I will get in contact with you and
put up a link to your site.

Do
you run horse clinics for horse and rider?
At
what level and do you include different styles?
I
have ridden 30 of my 45 years ( I would have ridden 45 if I had the
opportunity). I have learnt from different aspects and take heed to
Monty Roberts and Pat Parelli lines of thought. I would love to be
more involved with others .
Bakki ( my horse) and I have ridden on our own for 6 years and it is
too lonely. We are in great need for involvement. I do not own a float
but it is coming up the priority list and the children will have to join
in or miss out!
Thank you for your time and the T.V series need more advertising
because it is terrific

Dear Rosemary,
Thank you for your kind
words.
You should also consider the
Adults Riders Club nearest to you.
www.hrcav.com.au may be able to help with a club
near you.
I hope this helps. You
can ride with others and get some tips as well.
Kind Regards
Tat.

Hi. I saw you in
California, USA at the Western States Horse Expo and I was very
impressed. If you are ever in the states again, I would love to see a
clinic.
Can you put me on a
mailing list of notification of you being here?
If you lived here, I
would send my 2 yr. old colt to you and have you start working with
him. You are awesome.
Dear Ami,
Guy will be back in USA if we
all goes well in late September. You can see more about the clinic
on our NEWS PAGE. Thank you for your nice comments I love your
horse. He's beautiful. I hope your training for him goes
well.
Kind Regards
Tatiana.

12 July 2005
Hello,
We saw guy at the horse expo in Sacramento,
California last month. we really enjoyed watching him and talking with him
Saturday afternoon. The grey dapple he did the work on there was our
neighbours horse (Mickey Cohen) and we were quite impressed. Where
are you located? We weren't sure if you were actually here, in the states,
or if you were in Australia. We have several folks interested in training
and wanted to find out the particulars.
Thank you for your time. Bill & Wendi
Garden Valley, California
Dear Bill & Wendi.
First of all Guy is located in
QLD Australia but is planning to spend time in the USA. Guy is
looking to return to USA in September. We are finalizing dates and a
clinic schedule at the moment in Salinas CA..
I will email you more details.
Kind Regards

Last year Horse Rush TV was on Channel 31
in Melbourne and I was wondering when it would be back on. I enjoyed
the show and found it to be very informative.
Dear Robyn,
We have sent our tapes in to
Aurora our new airing network on Foxtel Digital & Austar Satellite across
Australia so we are expecting our schedule any day now. I hope you
are able to continue to watch Horse Rush TV on Cable. Aurora is a
free channel if you are a Foxtel Digital or Austar customer.
We will also post episodes on the
website a few days after they have aired on Aurora. They will be
posted in Broadband format and Dial Up format. We are also looking
at options for everyone to be able to download the episodes in a high
quality format to be able to save them on DVD.
Regards Sam.

Hey!
I was at the Melbourne 3DE last year when I saw a small
crew of people running around with a camera. I saw on the jacket the name
Horse Rush and an URL so I quickly wrote down the website and discovered
you guys! Since getting cable, I lost channel 31 but I love watching your
episodes over the net. I just love Horse Rush, what you guys are about
kicks so much butt. You guys are keeping it real; its so Australian and
relevant to our country, we need more stuff like that on TV.
You all must have so much fun... so let us know if you
need a graphic designer hehe
Keep it up!
Cheers,
Ellie
Thanks Ellie,
We should be starting on cable in
the very near future. Times will be on our home page.

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that Guy
McLean's performances were awesome (it was worth
getting my feet sunburned for)!!! What he accomplished
with the Arab gelding in 3 days is more than what some
people can do in years!!!!!! His poem was also very
nice. Please provide information on any tapes/DVD's
of his training clinics that are available.
Thanks,
Elizabeth P
Suisun City, CA 94585
Dear Elizabeth,
Guy was pleased you enjoyed his
demo and poem. We will be in touch with you when his DVD's are
ready. We hope your feet are okay...It sure was hot in Sacramento at
the Expo. Thank you for emailing us.

16 May 2005
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you to purchase the Horse Rush Series 1
DVD which is now available according to your website. Unfortunately,
living in rural Victoria, we haven't had access to your television series
so I am looking forward to viewing it on Austar in the near future.
I have heard nothing but good reports about your series
and feel that it can only be a huge bonus to all horse lovers in Australia
to have a show by Australians for Australians.
Keep up the great work and I will ensure that as many as
possible of my equestrian friends in the North East watch your show and
support your efforts.
Your website has also helped to renew my interest in
Project Hope Horse Rescue and I have applied for membership. I
remember reading about the formation of the group 30 years ago in Rider
magazine, and I was in awe of their efforts and endeavors then. Now
30 years on, the group is still there fighting for the rights and welfare
of horses, and I am proud to support a great group of people with
practical and realistic ideals.
Please accept my best wishes for your continued success.
Kind Regards
C.H
Dear Christine,
We hope you
enjoy the Series and we look forward to your comments once you watch it.
We also thank you for your kind words and support of Project Hope as the
best way to help them is by becoming a member so they can use the funds to
help as many horses as possible.
Kind Regards,
Tat
Fantastic to see your
program finally available to everyone that has pay T.V. We have a little
horse property outside the A.C.T. and have been hanging out to be able
to watch your show, I even lobbied Austar to put your show on.
The only problem we have
is that Aurora don't have a program listing in the program guide so we
don't know what time your show is on, so we were wondering if you might
be able to help us out with your programming times.
Thankyou for producing a
show dedicated to horses and the people who love them,

Karen with Buster( the chestnut Q.H.) ,
Pilgrim ( the paint Clydie cross) and Tegen ( the Staffy).
Dear Gavin & Karen.
We are expecting our schedule
in the very near future and we will be posting it on the website home
page. We are finalizing a few more details and it should not be to
long now.
Thank you for your support.
We hope you enjoy the show.

Hi Guys,
Just thought I would shoot you an
email to say thanks for coming over to Perth for the Expo, all of your
demonstrations were fantastic and you should hear people talking about it
still..
A special thanks to Guy who did a
fantastic job with Kai I have him lying down straight away now. So many
people have emailed and rang me to say they had seen him and what a
wonderful job Guy did with him.
Thanks again Guys it was great to
have you here in Perth.
Thank you
Belinda

Kai waiting for Guy at the EquineXpo Perth
2005
Dear Belinda on behalf of the Horse Rush
Team we thank you for allowing Guy to work with your stunning horse Kai
and especially thank you for trusting Guy with Kai. It is a big deal
to let someone else handle your horse in a public place and trust them
with your horse's safety and well being. So a big thank you to you and
Kai.
Kai was definitely one of the stars of the
EquineXpo Perth 2005 and we look forward to some updates on what Kai is up
to in WA.

Jim & Crystal
My name is Lorna , and I
was browsing the web and saw that your team was coming to Perth in March
2005. I saw that you are looking for horse to work with. WE have a horse
which we are currently have some problems with. He is a 15.3 and 3/4 hh
part Anderlusion. We brought him for my 13yr old daughter to use for PC
and eventing.
He is very laid back and
is a great first horse( having move up for ponies) he also seems to have
a very stubborn streak, he has decided that he won't jump ditches. He is
not afraid or stressed by them in any way and was happily going over
them at PC, and now out of the blue he has set his mind and he will not
go over them. Pleases help.

Dear Lorna we will have Guy help you with
your question ASAP and we thank you for your kind offer....
Horse Rush Team
Today was the first time
that I've had the pleasure of watching your program "Horse Rush" on RFD TV
on Direct TV. I thought it was great. I hope that you keep your show on
RFD and continue with the great programming.
The difference between
Brumby's and Mustang's are the "Brumby's" or rather horses were shipped to
Australia in 1788 and thereafter and left there for the penal colony and
the supporting other people who would be coming there and they were just
left. With no one to take care of them many of them died and the others
became feral and a gentleman came to Australia from England whose last
name was Brumby and when he left, he left horses so when people would
inquire whose they were settlers would say there "Brumby's".
The Mustang's on the other
hand were brought here to the America's with the Spanish Conquistadors.
When they were exploring through Latin America up through Mexico and into
the south western United States some of their horses escaped, some were
stolen by Native Americans and others were left behind when the Spaniards
went back to Spain. These horses became our mustangs of today.
My name is Tracie
Jacksonville, North Carolina
I hope that I gave you
enough info for the contest. I have always wanted to come to Australia,
but I guess this is as close as I'm going to get.
Thanks!!!!!
Dear Tracie, we are glad you enjoy watching the Aussie's on Horse
Rush TV. We have sent you a package in the post. Enjoy on
behalf of the Horse Rush Team.
Am a horse trainer in Ramona, California. We just got RFD-TV in my area
and I try to catch all the horse programming when I can. Just saw a
couple of your HORSE RUSH-TV shows. They are great! Have seen one on
saving brumbies and would love to have a brumby here to train and
promote. I have a mustang mare (now retired) who literally saved my life
at a time when I had no horses and could not afford to buy a horse at
regular prices. This mare educated me in starting mustangs and went
through the John Lyons certification course with me.
I
am starting a new project of doing artwork with the help of my mustang
mare and myself (I was an artist with Hallmark card company here several
years ago.) If the project "flies" I hope to raise awareness of the
mustang here and donate monies to the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) for
the horses here and would love to ship some dollars and support to help
your brumbies who through your programming I have learned are not
protected by your government.
Keep
up the good work!
Kay, K and L Ranch, Ramona, CA.
Dear Kay, thank you for your nice comments on
Horse Rush TV. We have sent you a pack in the mail. We hope
you continue to watch Horse Rush Series 2. Regards from the Horse
Rush Team
Hi!
I was
wondering where to find Horse rush TV????
I have
tried to look in my April Foxtel guide to no avail ???
Are you
on Channel 31 as well?? When does that start??
Sorry
but I am having withdrawals….
Thanks
Gill
Dear Gill, We don't
want you having withdrawals. There is no need to panic. We are just
finalizing some paperwork with an exciting sponsor and then we will
begin the Series. Keep an eye on you Foxtel guide on the Aurora
Channel.
Best Wishes from the Horse
Rush Team

couple of years ago.)
Hi Guys…
We are friends of Dr Sheila Greenwell
and Dr Paul, currently up at Earaheedy Station in the process of dam
trapping the wild horses your website has a link to. Their website now has
an update – recent & close up photos of some of the magnificent horses
they are trying to save – in case you are interested.
My husband will be joining them in a
few weeks along with two cattle trucks to bring the first lot of horses
back – all going well – once we receive the “come and get them!” phone
call from Sheila and Paul.
We are WALER
owner/breeders, also interested in brumbies, hence the Earaheedy rescue.
The Waler
Horse Society of
Australia Inc. website can offer a great deal of accurate information on
this breed if you are interested.
http://www.walerhorse.com/whsa/ Both Dr Greenwell and ourselves are
members of the WHSA.
It is possible that
the Earaheedy horses MAY be Walers but there is much research to do
before that is confirmed or
otherwise.
Cheers for now – keep up the great work
– important to share horse world information!!
Kevin
& Katherine Margaret River WA Australia
Dear Kevin &
Katherine,
Thank you for
your help with the Waler information. We do wish Sheila and all of
you involved every success with the relocation of the horses. We will do
everything we can, to help you find them all good homes.
Kind Regards and
keep up the good work from the Horse Rush Team.
